Dear members and friends.
I’m delighted to come here once again to offer you my very best wishes for a happy and prosperous 2024. May good health enable you to enjoy the affection of your nearest and dearest, the friendship of those around you, and to achieve what you set your heart on.
The world in which we live gives us more cause for concern than cause for joy, and our hearts ache to think of all those who suffer from violence, intolerance, hatred of others, or harsh economic and climatic conditions. Fortunately, here and there, good news is reaching us about mutual aid, solidarity and action for greater justice and a livable future!
ANUVAM GENERAL ASSEMBLY
will take place
4 and 5 May at BROUSSE (63)
(Auvergne region)
With Gisèle and Jean-Claude BONNET
Gîte Hélio-Ferme
Hosted by Evelyne, a group of members met in Auvillers-en-Gâtinais on 3 and 4 June 2023, a warm and fruitful meeting as usual!
The Nepalese government is now playing a tangible role in the development of the village, and Rapcha has slightly more resources at its disposal than in the past. There are, of course, a number of administrative, legal and tax constraints that complicate matters a little.
These measures have given Yadav and Jase a lot of work and worry, and are now making it difficult to transfer funds.
The Annual General Meeting decided to compensate Yadav and Jase for this work, to cover all the costs incurred and to consider ways of getting ANUVAM aid to the village.
At the initiative of ANUVAM members in Burgundy, a lecture was given in early April at the Maison du Terroir in Genouilly.
Jean-Claude Raimbault presented a slide show on the work carried out in the village of Rapcha since the association was founded 28 years ago. The focus was on the construction of earthquake-resistant houses following the violent earthquakes in Nepal in April and May 2015.
Marc Bechet and Elisabeth Meignan read out transcripts of interviews with key figures in the village, including the high priest shaman, who described their experiences of the 2 earthquakes.
ANUVAM GENERAL MEETING

in the Loiret
at Evelyne Pichenot home
in Auvilliers-en-Gâtinais
Dear members and friends.
At the start of 2023, we would like to wish you and your families good health, the fulfilment of your personal wishes and projects, and lots of fun and friendship. It’s hard to be optimistic in today’s roaring world, but we need to keep the energy we need to continue laying our little stones …
We are also sending you the greetings that Yadav sent from the villagers of Rapcha for all the members of ANUVAM.
A recent mission to Rapcha in Nepal in March 2022 by 3 members of the association enabled us to
gather information on the follow-up to the local economic development project initiated with the
support from the CDC développement solidaire association.
Earthquake-resistant buildings
Five poor families in this village, including a widow and a disabled person, now have decent, earthquake-resistant housing
of around 30 m2. (See photos of the five houses)
In addition, the association, through the intermediary of a French building technician, has trained a team of
masons and carpenters in earthquake-resistant construction techniques using local materials (stone and wood).

Two other houses in the village, with no support from the association, have already adopted this seismic-proofing method.
(see photos, one of which is currently under construction).
The site managers: project manager, head carpenter and head bricklayer have written a letter of thanks for the technical and financial help they received from the association.

UN TOIT SOUS L’HIMALAYA UTSH
UTSH is a French association which, since 1985, has been providing a home, education and well-being for Nepalese children who are orphaned, abandoned or whose parents are unable to provide them with an education. The association is funded by donations and membership fees.
To implement this project, UTSH has built a house in HEMJA near POKHARA. The house can accommodate 20 girls and 20 boys.
Marc, Claudine and I travelled to Nepal from 15 to 29 March 2022 on a mission very well prepared in advance by Yadav.
Pancha and Jase accompanied us and Dilu Rai provided the French translation for the various meetings in the village, which was invaluable.
First of all, we were surprised by a marked change in the landscape and geographical organisation of the village.
The Annual General Meeting brought together 23 people in Brousse on 22 and 23 May 2022 in a summer atmosphere.
The report on the trip to the village in March fed into this AGM. The mission was very well prepared by Yadav and Jase, and provided answers to many of the association’s questions. The French translation provided by Dilu Raï was invaluable.
The trip gave us a good idea of how the village is evolving.
New administrative organisation in Nepal and therefore in the region: Rapcha is now managed by Ward No. 2 of the Dudhkoshi municipality.
The arrival of the ‘road’, which crosses the village and leads to a geographical recomposition with many new houses along the road, numerous shops (‘teashop’ + small grocery shop) and several lodges under construction, and a modification of daily life thanks to the arrival of various goods (example: gas bottles).

Summary of the Rapcha project
Five earthquake-resistant houses have been built in the village of Rapcha in Nepal, in two phases (winter 2020 and winter 2021), on budget and on schedule, despite the uncertainties and constraints associated with the health crisis.
A sixth house, initially intended for a family that has since benefited from local aid, was not built, but as a replacement, the mayor wisely proposed supporting the village’s agricultural development for the benefit of the entire community. The construction of a new water mill to process local cereals thus helped to reinforce the economic objective of this project.
Despite the pandemic and traffic restrictions, life goes on at Rapcha and projects are coming to fruition.
After the Tihar festival (15-17 November), the now highly qualified team of masons and carpenters went back to work to build the 2 houses for the families of Ramesh Rai and Satra Bahadur Rai.
Our friends Jase and Yadav were able to organise the site, supervise the work and draw up a comprehensive report.
On the threshold of 2022, I’d like to take this opportunity, along with all the members of the Board, to wish you all the best for the future, so that you can enjoy everything that’s close to your hearts. We hope that solidarity and friendship will be the dominant values of this new year (it is not forbidden to dream).
In a context where serenity is far from being the order of the day, let’s remain positive and motivated for all our actions that put exchanges between human beings at the forefront.
At the Salle des Fêtes in Gimeaux, near Riom (63) our association presented an exhibition with projections on the afternoon of Saturday 22 February 2014.
Marion Calvés visited Rapcha in September 2014, here is the report on her “study trip”.
