Letter from ANUVAM – January 2020

Best wishes to ANUVAM members and the village of Basa-Rapcha

As every year, the traditional exchange of good wishes is an opportunity to reaffirm our affection and solidarity with the inhabitants of the village of Basa-Rapcha. Yadav, Pancha and Jase warmly send their good wishes to all the members of the association, both to those who have had the opportunity to spend time there and to the friends they don’t know, but who have been providing their support for 25 years.

Nepal photo exhibition by Jean-Claude Raimbault

At the La Croix Blanche mutualist centre from 4 to 30 November 2019.

Opening on Friday 8 November from 6.30 pm.

I’ve been walking in Nepal for 40 years. As an amateur photographer, I’ve been taking part in photographic art fairs for several years now. Through this exhibition, I’d like to share some of the most intense experiences I’ve had in meeting the landscapes and people of this country.

I’m one of the founding members of the ANUVAM association: “Au Népal, Un Village, une Amitié en Marche”, which for 25 years has been contributing to the development of the village of Rapcha, in the Everest region, in the fields of education, health and culture.

New solidarity initiatives after the 2019 AGM

In the spring of 2019, our association ANUVAM was able to take a calm decision at its General Meeting in Théoule to continue its earthquake-resistant construction work in Basa Rapcha, thanks in particular to the support of its usual partners, reinforced by a substantial contribution of 15,000 euros from the association of employees of the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations (CDC Développement solidaire ) to build 6 new earthquake-resistant houses for families living in precarious conditions.
The funding application submitted to this organisation was selected according to their criteria to benefit from partial funding and was valued as a contribution to the local economy.
The CDC selection committee recognised the seriousness of our association’s approach, as well as its contribution to the training of local technicians in earthquake-resistant site management.
ANUVAM and the local community of Basa-Rapcha would like to thank CDC Développement Solidaire for their support for sustainable social housing. The 17 projects selected are available on their website www.cdcdeveloppementsolidaire.org, including 6 that have been singled out for their support for the local economy, including the Basa Rapcha project (employment and training in earthquake-resistant construction and attention to the sustainable quality of our project in Nepal).
In autumn 2019, after the monsoon season, the workers will start work on the first phase of 3 houses for families designated by the local community on the basis of social criteria.

Support for the Golden Jubilee, Basa school – January 2019

The Basa Khali Secondary School Alumni Association also played an active part in this Golden Jubilee event, which involved all the families in all the hamlets.

The leaders of the association had the opportunity to express their gratitude to ANUVAM last year in Kathmandu and were proud to proclaim that more than 800 young people from Basa-Rapcha over the last 20 years had obtained their secondary school leaving certificate in the village.
The ANUVAM association, which had been officially invited to attend this jubilee but was unable to make it due to dates and availability, was particularly keen to thank Jase Rai, chairman of the secondary school committee, and to mark its participation by distributing scholarships.

Winter 2018/19 work completed at Rapcha

As planned at our AGM last May, three earthquake-proof houses financed by our association were completed this winter in the village of Basa-Rapcha, enabling new families to move into a safe and decent home.
This was made possible by the excellent coordination of our local project managers, Yadav and Jase, who organise the work sites, recruit the workforce and supply the tools and materials.

For our part, we also need to make sure that we have enough cash to finance the work in advance, particularly for the purchase of wood, to allow time for the wood to dry out.
