The reconstruction of the third planned house, that of Doma Laxmi Rai and her children, was completed during their stay after just 15 days of work. The team of craftsmen has fully assimilated the principles of earthquake-resistant construction, and the quality improves with each new house.
Vincent will return just before Christmas after supervising the reconstruction of two other houses (Man Bir and Deepa Rai’s and Maïti Rai’s).
Several buildings at the Basakhali secondary school have been rebuilt using government funds and with the help of other associations. Julie Klein, a member of technical partner CAPA, also visited the village and will be reporting on the two-storey building financed by ANUVAM and on the Bodu primary school. For the younger children, the Kindergarten (Re-Help association) is almost complete and the Chandrodaya primary school in Thulodunga has been consolidated (Classrooms in the Clouds association).
The trail from Phaplu and Salleri now arrives at Rapcha (two possible routes) and goes as far as Andheri, where the construction of several lodges is planned.
It takes 4 or 5 hours by jeep to get from Phaplu to Rapcha.
The village of Rapcha is now part of the Dudh Khosi Rural Municipality, whose administrative centre is in Damku (rather than Salleri). This entity includes Basa, Kaku (downstream of Kastap), Waku (on the other side of the Dudh Khosi) and half of Jubing.
Important local elections are taking place this December 2017.
